Bowman Gray study of 300 Wake Forest football players, the 48% who wore ankle braces for 656 player-years had only 43 sprains.  But the 52% who chose tape to protect their ankles had 115 injuries over 678 player-years.  This study was done during 1,466 practices and 89 games.

• During practice 65 taped players were injured versus 27 braced
• During games, 50 taped players were injured compared to 16 braced players
• Shoe type, shoe brand, level of player experience had no statistical effect on injury rates
• Players that were braced returned to full participation two days sooner than the taped players
